Bananas Have Followed Me All Through 2026

It's not a metaphor. In spring, social media was taken over by AI series about fruit that behave like people, and by the meme about two strawberries whose baby turned out to be a banana. In summer, at the Laima Rendezvous festival, Potap and Nastya described their relationship to us in three words: strawberry, banana and diamond. And in Spain, at the Torsunov festival, I mentored a men's team called "The Bananas".
When fruit surrounds you on all sides, there's only one thing left to do — sing them a song.
Why Bécaud, and Why in French
Gilbert Bécaud sang "Je reviens te chercher" in 1967, with lyrics by Pierre Delanoë. With the same lyricist he also wrote "Et maintenant" and "Je t'appartiens" — the world knows the latter in English as "Let It Be Me". In France, Bécaud was nicknamed "Monsieur 100,000 Volts" for his stage energy, which is almost a professional benchmark for an event host.
The song is about someone who comes back to the one they love after a long separation and many quarrels. And who realises that being together matters more than deciding who was right.
I host events in four languages, French included, so I sang it in the original. And as a wedding host I often hear stories of couples who once broke up and still found their way back to each other.
What the Video Is About
I took the heroes of the year's biggest trend but changed the genre. Instead of a fruit soap opera full of cheating, it's a story of loyalty: Strawberry sets off to find her Banana, never gives up and finds him in the end.
The French lyrics run as subtitles right on screen, so you can sing along even if you don't speak French. The video is about three minutes long.
An Event Host's View: What Works at Your Celebration Too
A familiar song plus an unexpected picture wins the room. A 1967 classic sounds different when there's a strawberry on screen.
A happy ending beats drama. People want stories that end well, especially at weddings.
Languages bring people together. When guests come from different countries, a host who speaks their language breaks the ice in the first minutes.
